It has been almost two years since Ubisoft first announced Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. Due to the reaction to the initial reveal trailer, Ubisoft quickly delayed the game to address feedback. The game was then delayed again, and again, seemingly stuck in development hell. Recently, the project switched studios entirely and now unsurprisingly, the game has been delayed another time.
In May, Ubisoft confirmed that The Sands of Time Remake has been moved to a new studio. Previously, the project was in development at Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai. Now, the project will be handled by Ubisoft Montreal, one of the publisher's flagship studios, with development support from two of Ubisoft's studios in India.
“This decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it’s ready”, the publisher said at the time.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was supposed to be releasing in the current fiscal year, ending in March 2023. Now, a month on from the big studio switch, Ubisoft has confirmed to PCGamer that the game will no longer be coming out in the current fiscal year. Beyond that, the game has been delisted from retailers, so while the game isn't cancelled, you can't pre-order it anymore and anyone who did pre-order can obtain a refund.
The game does not have a new release date yet, but at this rate, it might not be coming out until late 2024.

KitGuru Says: A Prince of Persia remake should have been a sure-fire success, but decisions made early on in the development process have really hampered its progress. Hopefully under Ubisoft Montreal, the project can finally start to move towards release.
