Kojima cancelled a superhero game due to similarities with Amazon’s ‘The Boys’

Hideo Kojima has had many ideas for games over the years, but not all of them make it to a production and announcement phase. Recently, Kojima shared a story about a game he wanted to make fairly recently, but ended up shelving after seeing Amazon's TV series ‘The Boys'.

Following on from the successful release of The Boys Season 3, Kojima took to Twitter to share some of his personal experience with the series. As it turns out, Kojima was working on a game with similar concepts, but decided to shelve it after seeing the first few episodes of Amazon's show.

“I watched a few episodes that were delivered at the time when I was about to start a project that I had been warming up for a long time and put on hold because the concept was similar”, Kojima said. He added that the game was put on hold because “the concept was similar”, focusing on a special detective squad going up against legendary heroes behind the scenes.

Kojima also added that he hoped to cast Mads Mikkelsen in the lead role. Following Kojima's tweets, multiple members of The Boys production team replied with support for the idea of a video game based on The Boys helmed by Kojima. Whether Kojima would be interested in working on a licensed project over an original concept seems unlikely. At this point, Kojima Productions has multiple major games in the works, including a new horror game with Xbox, and Death Stranding 2, likely with PlayStation publishing once again.

KitGuru Says: It is safe to assume that whatever this project was will remain shelved for the foreseeable future as Kojima has other projects going on right now. Still, it would be interesting to see if Kojima takes some of his ideas for a superhero game and applies them elsewhere in the future.
