One of the most impressive aspects to Fortnite is the fact that Epic Games has, over the years, improved the fundamentals of the battle royale title. From new physics, to tactical sprinting to engine overhauls and more, Fortnite is in many ways a wholly different game from what it was at launch – for the better. The next major game-changing feature coming to Fortnite appears to be a first-person mode.
Known Fortnite leaker HYPEX recently took to Twitter to announce their latest findings, revealing that Epic Games has added a rudimentary first-person mode into Fortnite. According to HYPEX, the functionality is “still in early development,” but notes that a first-person camera would work well in the game’s Zero Build mode.
Adding a first-person mode is not as simple as changing the camera position; it requires potentially hundreds of new bespoke first-person animations as well as a whole new aiming and recoil system. Furthermore, depending on how the mode works, each gun will need to be able to aim down sight – with the model accurately showcasing this.
These are but a few of the considerations required to make a proper first-person mode work well, especially in a competitive multiplayer title. That being said, Epic Games has in the past shown willingness to overhaul many aspects of the game, and so it seems it will only be a matter of time before a first-person mode is added into Fortnite.
