Back in 2020, Blizzard confirmed that it was officially done with StarCraft 2 development, and with no immediate plans for a new sci-fi RTS, many StarCraft veterans left to form a new studio – Frost Giant Studios. Now two years later, the group of ex-Blizzard developers have revealed their new game – Stormgate.
Stormgate is a new RTS game helmed by industry veterans that previously worked on StarCraft 2 and even the early Warcraft strategy games. The trailer for Stormgate debuted last night during Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest stream:
Stormgate will be a free-to-play game, set in the middle of an on-going war between humans and alien invaders. It will feature a full campaign, as well as multiplayer, so you can play solo, in co-op or engage in PvP battles online. The game will also feature an editor, so you can create custom games.
The Unreal Engine 5 RTS will be launching in 2023 – there will be a beta next year too, which anyone interested can already sign up for.

KitGuru Says: As much as I love the idea of a new RTS from some of the veterans behind Warcraft 3 and StarCraft 2, the free-to-play aspect worries me a little. For now, the game sounds promising, we'll just have to wait and see how it holds up in beta next year.
