Cyberpunk 2077 QA partner responds to allegations of mismanagement

The troubles CD Projekt Red faced during the development of Cyberpunk 2077 are well documented, but we're still finding out new parts of the story 18 months on from the game's initial release. A few days ago, a report claimed that the external QA company working on Cyberpunk 2077 contributed to the game's poor launch through mismanagement. Now, Quantic Labs has responded.

According to a lengthy document received by YouTuber ‘Upper Echelon Gamers‘, Quantic Labs was contracted to help QA test Cyberpunk 2077, but apparently lied to CD Projekt on several occasions. While CDPR thought it had a team of senior, veteran testers, it is said that Quantic Labs primarily employed junior level testers with minimal experience to work on the game. The report also brought up other issues, such as the bug quota in place, which led to testers filing unnecessary bug reports and slowing down the process.

In a statement sent to VGC, Quantic Labs CEO, Stefan Seicarescu, denied the allegations made in the original report: “The video published on social media as mentioned in your article starts with incorrect statements about Quantic Lab’s history. There seems to be a lack of understanding in the process of how a game is tested before its release to the market”.

The CEO added that typically, there are several QA partners for major projects, in addition to the studio's own internal QA team. CD Projekt Red has not commented publicly on the situation.

KitGuru Says: At this point, it does seem unfair to go back and start pointing fingers. Cyberpunk 2077 released in 2020 and it was a mess that required a lot of extra time to fix. There was undoubtedly plenty of blame to go around, but at this point, it is probably time to move on.
