Every year we get a new series of closed and open beta tests for the next Call of Duty game and this year will be no exception. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be releasing this October and it seems that Infinity Ward already has its eyes set on August for the first playable beta.
The Amazon listing for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 pre-orders is live and the page seems to indicate that the pre-order comes with beta access starting on the 15th of August 2022. This is described as early access to the open beta for pre-order customers, so the full open beta will likely be taking place that same week.
If you follow many of these shooters ahead of release, then this is no surprise. Typically, all the major shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield will hold an open beta test roughly six weeks before launch to gather feedback to squash the most important issues before launch. Of course, there are also instances where beta feedback is not fixed in time for release, as we saw with Battlefield 2042 last year.
Activision and Infinity Ward have not yet confirmed the beta dates for Modern Warfare 2, but the game is scheduled to release on the 28th of October, followed by Warzone 2 before the end of the year. With this release date in mind, the beta should be taking place in August or early September.
