The RGB revolution continues, with the first RGB PCIe 4.0 SSDs now beginning to appear. This week, Patriot's Viper Gaming introduced the world's first RGB PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD, featuring a custom heatsink with RGB lighting, and available with up to 1TB capacity.
Available in 512GB and 1TB storage capacities, the VPR400 comes with onboard RGB LEDs and a chunky aluminium heat spreader to prevent it from thermal throttling during operation. If the heatsink is not enough, the built-in thermal sensor in conjunction with the firmware will adjust performance to maintain the operating temperature at acceptable levels. The 1TB model is rated to endure 800TBW, while the 512GB model should withstand at least 400TBW.
Using an Innogrit IG5220 Gen4 x4 controller, the VPR400 offers random read and write speeds up to 600K and 500K IOPs and sequential read and write speeds up to 4,600 MB/s and 4,400 MB/s, respectively. The SSD's RGB lighting can be customised and synchronised with other Viper Gaming products via Viper RGB 3.0 software.
Backed by a 5-year warranty, Viper's latest PCIe 4.0 SSD will become available in late June through retailers worldwide. Pricing hasn't been shared.
