PlayStation VR2 expected to launch in Q1 2023

Back at the start of the year, all signs were pointing towards PS VR2 entering mass-production in the first half of 2022, ahead of a Q4 launch. A few months later, we heard talks of a delay. Now, analysts expect the next-gen VR headset to arrive in early 2023.

Sony has been slowly revealing new details about PS VR2 all year. so far, we've seen what the headset looks like, and we've got technical specifications and details on new features, like eye-tracking. However, Sony has not officially announced a release date, or even a release window.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, whose name you'll recognise from many Apple-related predictions over the years, the PS VR2 will enter mass-production later this year, starting off with a batch of 1.5 million units, ahead of a Q1 2023 launch. It is unclear whether Kuo means Q1 calendar year, which would be January to March, or Q1 of the fiscal year, which would be April to June.

While Sony hasn't announced a release date yet, the company did recently tease that it has over 20 games lined up for the headset's launch. We'll be getting our first look at PS VR2 games in action during a new State of Play stream later this week. So far, the only game officially announced for the system is Horizon: Call of the Mountain, a new game set in the same universe as Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West.

KitGuru Says: First half of 2023 sounds reasonable for the PS VR2. The headset can't be too far off, as Sony has already revealed so much. Hopefully next year we'll also see a nice increase in PS5 stock too.
