Cuphead’s DLC sells 1 million copies in less than two weeks

Cuphead’s Delicious Last Course DLC has been many years in the making, with it being announced all the way back in 2018. Originally planned for release in 2019, the Delicious Last Course ended up taking much more time than expected, only just launching at the end of June 2022. Fortunately, this lengthy development seems to have been worth it as the DLC has already sold over 1 million copies in less than two weeks.

Making the announcement on Twitter, Studio MDHR revealed that “#CupheadDLC has gone platinum, selling 1M copies!!” adding that “As a small token of our immense thanks, we’re gifting a Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, and PS5 console [the details of which can be found HERE].”

For comparison, Cuphead’s base game managed to sell 1 million copies within two weeks, meaning that the DLC’s sales are currently trending just slightly above the base game. That being said, in total since its initial release in 2017, Cuphead has sold over 6 million copies.

Seeing as how the DLC requires the base game, the Delicious Last Course will never outsell the OG Cuphead, but its rate of adoption is highly impressive nonetheless, especially since it is a self-published indie title.

Of course, the Cuphead IP has been going from strength to strength, with the Netflix show launching earlier this year to great success with a second season confirmed to be in development.

Regardless of such external factors, Cuphead The Delicious Last Course serves as another feather in Studio MDHR’s cap. It will be quite interesting to see what the team works on next – especially after dedicating more than a decade to Cuphead and its DLC.
