QA company reportedly lied to CD Projekt Red throughout Cyberpunk 2077 development

The troubles CD Projekt Red faced during the development of Cyberpunk 2077 are well documented, but we're still finding out new parts of the story 18 months on from the game's initial release. According to a new report, a QA company contracted to work on Cyberpunk 2077 contributed to the chaos by lying to CD Projekt Red.

A whistleblower handed over tons of documents to YouTuber ‘Upper Echelon Gamers‘, revealing that a company known as Quantic Labs was contracted to help QA test Cyberpunk 2077. According to the report, the company overexaggerated the size of the team it had working on Cyberpunk 2077 in an effort to keep the contract.

It is also claimed that Quantic Labs told CD Projekt Red that it had senior testers working on the game, but the team was primarily made up of entry-level staffers with minimal experience. The company also had a daily quota of reported bugs, which led to CD Projekt Red developers having to sift through thousands of unnecessary bug reports, which in turn wasted time and led to some game breaking issues not being prioritised.

Ultimately, CD Projekt Red still chose to release Cyberpunk 2077 in its launch state when it could have delayed a bit longer. However, if accurate, this report would indicate that there were also outside forces working against them in the leadup to release.

KitGuru Says: Quantic Labs and CDPR have not yet commented publicly on the report, but given everything else we know about Cyberpunk 2077's development so far, I don't think anyone would be surprised if this was accurate.
