Disney sim ‘Dreamlight Valley’ launches in early access this September

While we weren't expecting Disney's upcoming life sim, Dreamlight Valley, until 2023, it seems that Gameloft has instead opted for an early access launch. The game will now be available starting in September, although you'll need to buy the founder's pack or have an Xbox Game Pass subscription in order to play early.

Alongside the early access announcement, a new gameplay trailer for the game was also released during yesterday's Nintendo Direct Mini. The game is set in a town filled with famous landmarks from Disney and Pixar films, but due to an event called ‘The Forgetting' players will have to go around restoring the town and helping characters regain their lost memories.

The game is described as a “life-sim game with a robust, narrative-driven adventure composed of a solo campaign and a unique friendship system within the village sandbox where each Disney- and Pixar-inspired character has their own dedicated story arc.” Moreover, you'll be able to rearrange the village to your liking and customise your character.

Disney Dreamlight Valley will be free-to-play for Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC (Steam and Epic Games) and Mac. The F2P launch will take place next year once the game is finished with early access.

While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
