Cooler Master X Silent Edge Platinum 1100W Review

Rating: 9.5.

If, like me, you value a low noise PC then today's power supply will be of particular interest. Cooler Master have designed their own passively cooled power supply, able to deliver 1100 Watts of power. The key takeaway? The Cooler Master X Silent Edge Platinum 1100W is the most powerful passively cooled power supply you can buy today…

Cooler Master sent me a lot of literature for this power supply and it is clear they are very proud that this is an in-house bespoke design After reading their PDF document they seem to have every right to be, although the proof is in the testing as we always say! The fact they offer a 15 year warranty with this power supply is impressive. If you want to show people you have faith in any product – never mind one without a cooling fan – offer a very long warranty.

Cooler Master have used their cooling expertise to design composite heat pipe technology to help remove heat from the main PCB. In their own words ‘Cooler Master's in-house designed composite heatpipe technology efficiently dissipates heat away from the PSU's electronic components. The inside of each pipe is coated with a variety of copper-sintered and copper-powdered textures that optimize dissipation efficiency. Each heat pipe features a very finely textured structure at the bottom evaporator side where it meets the copper base plate that pushes heat up and out. On the condenser side, a coarsely textured structure absorbs liquid like a sponge and helps it move downwards more efficiently.'
