Xbox exclusives will be “the exception rather than the rule” according to insider

Ever since Phil Spencer confirmed earlier this year that 4 of the Xbox’s first-party titles would be coming to other platforms, the question has remained as to what this means for the rest of the Xbox slate. Following the announcement of The Outer Worlds 2 for PS5 during The Game Awards, reports have claimed that “exclusive Xbox console games will be the exception rather than the rule.”

As reported by known industry insider Jez Corden via Windows Central – following the confirmation that the previously-announced Xbox exclusive The Outer Worlds 2 is coming day-and-date to PlayStation 5 – the leaker claimed this represents the start of Microsoft’s ‘Project Latitude’ content strategy, saying:

“Xbox will no longer have ‘console exclusives’ moving forward — everything will either be timed, with a few outliers remaining console exclusive for incidental reasons, like developer bandwidth and so on. Even Halo, Forza, and Gears of War, games commonly associated with the Xbox brand, are not off the table.”

Even now, comments from various Microsoft executives including the CEO himself ‘Satya Nadella’ have been somewhat mixed in their messaging.

That said, with The Outer Worlds 2 confirmed for PS5, and Forza rumoured to be on the way at some point, it may be only a matter of time before we see the likes of Halo come to PlayStation. We will have to wait and see.
