Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds officially announced

The Sonic Racing series has served as a pretty well-regarded take on the Mario Kart styled racer, bringing together many of SEGA’s biggest IPs to compete in vehicular competition. Unfortunately, the series has been on a downward trajectory ever since 2012’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Fortunately, SEGA is giving it another go, announcing Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds during The Game Awards.

Announced via a short cinematic teaser and said to be “coming soon”, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the first proper new entry in the racing series since 2019’s Team Sonic Racing – which as mentioned was a bit of a disappointment compared to prior titles.

Given how brief the teaser was, little can be gleaned regarding exactly what CrossWorlds will be, but based on the name is it safe to assume that the title will go all-in on representing SEGA’s many franchises – even though Shadow the Hedgehog was the only character featured in the teaser itself.

SEGA has been reaching into its roots in recent months/years, bringing back a ton of dormant yet well-loved IP in many different forms. Hopefully Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds lives up to its name in this regard.
