LG debuts 480Hz OLED gaming monitor

The LG 27GX790A is LG's latest addition to the UltraGear lineup. Thanks to its impressive specifications, this monitor promises to deliver a gaming experience unlike most other monitors, combining the deep blacks of an OLED with a QHD resolution and a whopping 480 Hz refresh rate.

The LG 27GX790A features a 27-inch OLED panel with a 2560×1440 resolution and a 10-bit colour depth. Covering a staggering 98.5% of the DCI-P3 colour space, this monitor can not only display vibrant visuals but also provides a dynamic contrast ratio of 1.5M:1. Additionally, the display is VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400-certified, ensuring gamers can experience deep blacks and stunning highlights to elevate the gameplay experience.

The standout features of the 27GX790A are its blazing-fast refresh rate of 480 Hz and a response time of just 0.03 milliseconds. This combination, along with support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync, ensures ultra-smooth, tear-free graphics for both PC and console gaming. The inclusion of an anti-glare surface is a thoughtful touch, effectively minimising distractions from glare and reflections.

Connectivity is also good, with DisplayPort 2.1 facilitating an 80 Gbps data throughput for taking full advantage of the 480 Hz refresh rate. The monitor is also equipped with two HDMI 2.1 ports, alongside a USB 3.0 hub that features one upstream and two downstream ports. Additionally, there's a 4-pole headphone jack supporting DTS Headphone: X.

Ergonomics haven't been overlooked; the included stand allows for a generous height adjustment of up to 110 mm and permits a range of movements, including -30° to 30° of swivel, -5° to 15° of tilt, and pivoting capabilities. Aesthetically, the monitor’s back shell features customisable RGB hexagonal lights, allowing gamers to match their setup in style. True to LG's gaming pedigree, the 27GX790A is packed with a suite of gaming-focused features, including Dynamic Action Sync, Black Stabiliser, FPS Counter, and Crosshair, among others. The LG 27GX790A is now available in the US for $1000.

KitGuru says: If you're planning on getting a QHD OLED monitor with a 480 Hz refresh rate, there's not much to choose from. Besides this one, there's the Asus PG27AQDP and the Sony Inzone M10S. However, the latter two are usually found more expensive than the LG monitor.
