Following years spent in development hell, Dead Island 2 finally released last year to a surprisingly positive response, with the game selling millions of copies, supported by major post-launch updates and DLC. Following its recent addition to PlayStation Plus and ahead of its Xbox Game Pass debut, Dead Island 2 has surpassed 10 million players.
Making the announcement via a press release, the teams at Dambuster Studios and publisher PLAION , revealed that “Dead Island 2 – the thrilling First-Person Action zombie slaying RPG set in the iconic, gore-drenched streets of Los Angeles – has hit a record ten million players!”
This announcement came alongside the release of the Ultimate Edition – a complete version of Dead Island 2, its expansions and more. The Ultimate Edition is also being given for free to owners of the previous ‘Gold Edition’.
As mentioned, this announcement also came shortly following the release of Dead Island 2 onto PlayStation Plus Extra (15th October) which undoubtedly aided in this milestone to some degree.
That being said, Dead Island 2 is certainly a success, with the game having been confirmed to have sold over 1 million copies in its first 72 hours – with most recent sales figures from May of this year putting the title at 3 million. Not bad for a game which seemed for the longest time like vapourware.
