Corsair MP600 Mini 2TB SSD Review

Rating: 8.0.

The latest addition to Corsair's stable of SSDs is the 2TB version of the MP600 Mini M.2 2230 drive. The new drive features a new controller and upgraded performance compared to the 1TB version that was released a while ago. We put this new model through its paces and find out what it can bring to the table at the £230 asking price.

Corsair's original 1TB MP600 Mini used 176-layer 3D TLC NAND in combination with a Phison PS5021-E21T 4-channel controller. The new drive uses a Phison PS5027-E27, another 4-channel DRAM-less design controller but one supporting much faster NAND transfer speeds, 3600MT/s, rather than the 1600MT/s supported by the E21T. As the controller is a DRAM-less design the drive makes use of HMB (Host Memory Buffer) technology for caching duties, the drive using a small portion of the system's main memory for cache. The MP600 Mini uses a single 2TB 162-layer BiCS6 3D TLC NAND IC.

The new drive is the fastest of Corsair's M.2 2230 range with quoted Sequential read/write figures of up to 7,000MB/s and 6,200MB/s respectively.  Random 4K performance is listed as up to 750,000 IOPS for reads and up to 1.0M IOPS for writes.

The drive's rated endurance is 1200TBW with an average active power consumption figure of 5.6W and Corsair backs the MP600 MINI 2TB with a 5-year warranty.
