Industry insiders tease imminent God of War Ragnarök announcement

God of War Ragnarök is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated PlayStation games of the year. Initially intended to be released in 2021, the game was pushed to 2022 with very few additional details given. Fortunately, it seems Sony is gearing up for a major God of War Ragnarök announcement.

Tom Henderson and Jason Schreier are two of the most consistently accurate industry insiders currently, with impressive track records when it comes to video game leaks. According to both of them, a God of War update is imminent, with Tom Henderson taking to Twitter to say:

“Santa Monica/Sony right now preparing to announce something to give #GodOfWar fans some life” while tweeting out a GIF of Thor from Avengers Infinity War building his Stormbreaker axe.

Schreier mirrored Henderson’s statement, also taking to Twitter, saying “Sony is expected to announce God of War Ragnarök's (November) release date soon.”

Many fans were beginning to fear that God of War Ragnarök may not release in 2022 due to the sheer silence on the part of Sony Santa Monica. While it is a relief to see that the game is still seemingly slated for 2022, the announcement itself will reportedly be rather small scale in nature – with Sony simply releasing another cinematic trailer alongside a blog post announcing the game’s release date.

Many of Sony’s previous AAA game offerings were given their own bespoke State of Play deep-dives. God of War Ragnarök not getting such a thing is interesting indeed. Hopefully this is simply a shift in strategy for Sony, and not indicative of any internal issues.
