Ghost of Tsushima sells just under 10 million copies in two years

Ghost Of Tsushima was one of the biggest surprise hits of 2020. Launching to immediate success, the game has continued to sell well, with the team at Sucker Punch Productions now confirming that two years on, Ghost of Tsushima is almost at 10 million copies sold.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Sucker Punch Productions account said “This weekend marks two years since the release of #GhostOfTsushima! We are blown away by all of the support since then and so grateful for all of you! Thank you to everyone who has played and shared this journey with us!”

Alongside this, the team released an infographic highlighting some of the game’s most impressive statistics, including the fact that since its launch on the 17th of July 2020, Ghost of Tsushima has officially sold 9.73 million copies – an impressive figure for any game, let alone a PlayStation-exclusive brand new IP from a historically under-appreciated studio.

Other interesting stats include the fact that players have engaged in almost 1 Billion standoffs (998.5 million to be precise); 78 million photos have been taken using the game’s impressive photo mode; players have spent a collective 6437.4 years on horseback, and most importantly  75.18 million foxes have been pet.

Ghost of Tsushima quickly became the PS4’s fastest selling first-party original IP debut upon its release. Since then, the studio added new free content; gameplay improvements; released a PS5 Directors Cut which came with an expansion; and even added a co-op multiplayer mode as part of a free update. With such support being shown for Ghost of Tsushima, it is not surprising to see the game performing so well. Hopefully the game hits the big 10 million soon.
