Twitch is testing new ‘shared ban’ system for content creators

Ever since its inception, Twitch has suffered from a plethora of issues, be it trolling, stalking, harassment and even Swatting. The company has inadvertently announced a new system coming to the platform which will hopefully help stop repeat offenders: Shared bans.

As captured by streaming reporter Zack Bussey, during a recent demonstration of Twitch’s new ‘Guest Star’ feature, the presentation – intentionally or not – showed off an as-of-yet-unreleased feature called ‘shared ban’.

Though Twitch itself did not go into details, it is safe to assume that this functionality will allow for content creators to share their list of banned accounts with each other in some way or another. The feature could be as basic as requiring manual sharing of ban lists or it could offer advanced breakdowns with automated actions – we simply do not yet know.

As mentioned, Twitch has struggled with moderation since its creation, and so to see the company actually doing something to try and tackle it is good – even if it ultimately ends up not being the optimal solution. We’ll have to wait and see what the full details of the feature entails if and when it is officially announced.
