Cyberpunk 2077 expansion may appear at Gamescom

While many of us had hoped that CD Projekt Red would deliver Cyberpunk 2077's first expansion this year, the studio needed more time after spending most of 2021 creating the game's massive 1.5 update. While the expansion isn't releasing until 2023, it looks like we'll be getting a look at what to expect very soon.

CD Projekt announced the 2023 launch for Cyberpunk 2077's first expansion back in April. More recently, the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account tweeted “When Cyberpunk-Expansion?” in German. This has spurred rumours that Cyberpunk 2077's expansion will be part of Gamescom Opening Night Live this week. However, it is worth noting that subsequent replies to the tweet from CD Projekt Red staff leave the impression that this may have been a joke.

Geoff Keighley is holding the annual show to kick off Gamescom tomorrow evening. Gamescom is the biggest gaming convention in Europe and in recent years, Keighley has been trying to bring an E3-style showcase to the convention with exciting game reveals and updates on previously announced titles.

Since there was no E3 this year, there is a good chance that some big announcements were saved for Gamescom Opening Night Live. Keighley has confirmed that we'll see 30 games on stage, including a few world premieres.

KitGuru Says: If Cyberpunk 2077's expansion is going to be shown this year, then chances are it'll be targeting a H1 2023 release window. If it is coming later than that, then CD Projekt might be better off staying quiet a little longer and revisiting this next year.
