People Can Fly’s ‘Project Dagger’ will no longer be published by Take-Two

People Can Fly has been working on a couple of other projects alongside its most recent major release, Outriders. While the studio's next major IP, currently known as ‘Project Dagger', was going to be published by Take-Two, it appears both companies are now going their separate ways.

Project Dagger was going to be published under Take-Two's indie-focused label, Private Division. However, in an announcement this week, the studio revealed to investors that the deal is being scrapped. Instead, People Can Fly will look to self-publish Project Dagger, which is described as a “ground-breaking action-adventure title”.

As part of the contract, Take-Two had the option to acquire the Project Dagger IP, similarly to how Square Enix acquired Outriders. However, the company has decided not to exercise that right, which opens the door for People Can Fly to take the game to a new publisher, or bring everything in-house and self publish.

People Can Fly CEO, Sebastian Wojciechowski, says (via VGC) that the game will continue development as a self-published title. However, if the right deal comes along, Project Dagger could end up being published by an outside party.

KitGuru Says: We don't really know anything about Project Dagger yet, and the game is presumably still a few years away. Still, in an age of acquisitions and industry consolidation, it is nice to see a sizable studio betting on itself and going down the self-publishing route.
