Dead Island 2 was announced just shy of a decade ago, and while we haven't had an official update on the state of the game in a while, there have been a number of leaks this year. According to a growing number of sources, Dead Island 2 will be re-revealed soon.
Earlier this year, games reporter, Tom Henderson, revealed that sources have told him that Dead Island 2 is finally on track to release and could potentially even arrive this year. However, after skipping most major summer events, it appeared that perhaps Dead Island 2 would be held off until 2023.
Now in an updated report citing additional sources familiar with the game's development, Henderson says Dead Island 2 is in a “decent state of development”, with roughly six characters planned for the game and a big focus on co-op gameplay, which has been the focus of several playtests at the studio this year.
Embracer Group, the parent company of Dead Island 2 publisher, Deep Silver, recently told investors that the game should come out in the current financial year. It is possible that the game will get a new trailer at either Gamescom Opening Night Live or Geoff Keighley's other big annual show, The Game Awards, and a Q1 2023 release date.

KitGuru Says: At this point, it seems unlikely that Dead Island 2 will slip into the October to December period, which is probably for the best, because constant delays have led to a packed holiday season. In early 2023, there should be less competition to go up against.
