Prior to Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, various rumours pointed to a new poison/decay subclass being added to the game. That didn't end up happening this expansion, but it looks like Bungie has now confirmed it for Lightfall.
Bungie is currently preparing to reveal the next phase for Destiny 2. A livestream on the 23rd of August will see a new season launch, and Bungie will be unveiling Lightfall and a release date. One artist recently shared a finisher animation video that appears to reveal one upcoming feature for Destiny 2 – a new ‘green' coloured subclass.
Video apparently shows new super logo and three melees

As pointed out by Paul Tassi, the video shows a new subclass UI in the bottom corner of the screen with new icons. Each subclass in Destiny 2 has a colour attached to it. Solar is red/orange, Void is purple, Arc is a light blue and Stasis, the very first ‘Darkness' subclass in the game, is a darker blue. The icons shown in the video are green, lining up with previous rumours that Bungie is working on a Poison subclass. Presumably, this will be a new Darkness subclass and should debut with Lightfall, the next major Destiny expansion.
Unfortunately, that's all the information we have for now. Bungie will be making major announcements for Destiny in a livestream on the 23rd of August.

KitGuru Says: Interestingly, The Witch Queen did debut a new exotic SMG in the game, which has a poison/decay perk. That could end up becoming highly sought after if Bungie is planning on introducing this new subclass.
