Nvidia RTX 4080 to feature less CUDA cores than initially expected

There have been a number of rumours regarding Nvidia's next generation RTX graphics cards. In the latest round-up, one source changed their expected spec for the RTX 4070 and now, specifications for the upcoming RTX 4080 have also been adjusted, featuring less CUDA cores than previously expected. 

According to kopite7kimi, an account that has been sharing updates on Nvidia's new-gen GPUs and has made a number of adjustments along the way, the RTX 4080 will now feature fewer CUDA cores than previously stated. According to their information, the RTX 4080 will feature 9,728 CUDA Cores, down from the initial 10,240 CUDA Core estimate. It is also claimed that these graphics cards will have a 420W TDP, an AD103-300-A1 GPU, 16GB of GDDR6X memory and a PG136/139-SKU360 board.

While there has been a 5% reduction in CUDA cores, performance shouldn't be impacted too much. It is still claimed that the RTX 4080 should be capable of scoring around 15K points in the TimeSpy benchmark. Depending on power draw, it might also be feasible to gain that performance back through overclocking.

The RTX 40 series is expected to be announced in Q4, starting with the RTX 4090, RTX 4080 and RTX 4070, although the release of these graphics cards will likely be staggered.
