ARM might enter the gaming GPU market in the coming years. A new report claims that the chip development company is hiring software engineers to develop a new GPU.
The report comes from Globes (via VideoCardz). While the timeline for releasing this rumoured GPU remains uncertain, note that such developments typically span several years. Moreover, there is no information on whether the GPU is in the early stages of development or if it has progressed to advanced testing phases.
Reports suggest that ARM's new GPU is expected to target gaming and AI applications. However, whether it will be integrated into mobile devices or aimed at desktop systems remains unclear. Qualcomm has developed GPUs in the past but never dedicated ones.
This development comes two years after Nvidia's failed attempt to acquire ARM, sparking speculation about the potential outcome had the acquisition gone through. However, Nvidia's ongoing involvement with MediaTek has kept the chipmaker in the game.

KitGuru says: Do you think ARM could compete in the desktop GPU market? The hardware is just one side of the coin, good drivers will also be needed. Intel's first-generation desktop graphics cards, for instance, have improved tremendously since launch through more mature drivers.
