Octopath Traveler 2 is heading to Switch in February, possibly PC too

Octopath Traveler kicked off a new HD-2D era for Square Enix RPGs. Now after an extended break, a full sequel is now officially on the way, and Square Enix will be releasing it across multiple platforms right from launch.

This afternoon during a Nintendo Direct stream, Nintendo and Square Enix officially announced Octopath Traveler 2 for Nintendo Switch, although early retail listings indicate that the game will also release on PC. The original Octopath Traveler was initially a Switch exclusive, but later came to PC and eventually Xbox consoles too.

The sequel will introduce a day/night cycle and feature what appears to be a larger world to explore. Just like the first game, you will have eight playable characters to choose from, each with their own story to play through. This time around, there are branching story paths too, which should increase replayability. As great as the first game was, there weren't a lot of reasons to dive back in for a second run after finishing all the character stories.

Octopath Traveler 2 will be releasing for Nintendo Switch on the 24th of February. We are still awaiting on confirmation of the PC version from Square Enix.

KitGuru Says: Octopath Traveler is one of my favourite Switch games, so I'm pleased to see a sequel. Hopefully it will end up being better than Bravely Default 2.
