AMD shows off FSR 2.1 as a dozen more games are supported

AMD’s Fidelity FX Super Resolution has been going from strength to strength. Though the technology’s original 1.0 implementation left much to be desired, the company’s launch of FSR 2.0 back in May was met with great enthusiasm. AMD have not been resting on their laurels however, and have now officially announced FSR 2.1, bringing with it even more impressive improvements.

Available right now on GPUOpen for developers and in the latest update to Farming Simulator 22 (with HITMAN 3 set to see the upgrade soon), FSR 2.1 brings some notable improvements over the already impressive 2.0, namely:

  • Adding motion vector divergence to diminish locked pixels, which can alleviate ghosting.
  • Improved disocclusion logic to improve upscaling quality in some disocclusion cases.
  • Improved upscaled output quality with better color range and temporal stability.
  • Reactive Mask updates to alleviate ghosting issues on particles.
  • Composition and Transparency Mask updates to alleviate additional ghosting issues.
  • The full in-depth list of changes can be found HERE.

While the list of FSR 2.1 supported games is understandably small (for now), the company did reveal a dozen or so other games getting the 2.0 treatment from today:

  • Choo-Choo Charles
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Deep Rock Galactic
  • Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed
  • Miasma Chronicles
  • No One Survived
  • Project Haven
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Scathe
  • Scorn
  • VEIN

For some harder to run games, FSR 2.0 can be a godsend, and so to see the likes of Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption 2 being upgraded is an exciting and welcome announcement. Including these aforementioned titles, AMD FSR 2.0 is now supported in 45 games, the full list of which can be found HERE.

Technologies such as Nvidia’s DLSS and especially AMD’s FSR has helped to breathe new life into many older GPUs, meaning more people can play many more games for more years to come. Hopefully FSR 2.0/2.1 continues to be supported further.
