There has been growing concern around Sonic Frontiers, in part due to a poor gameplay showing earlier this summer, followed by a lack of updates. Fortunately, this week at Gamescom, Sega finally showed us what it has been working on.
Sonic Frontiers is officially releasing on the 8th of November for all planned platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. The game offers a mix of open-world gameplay and levels. The new story trailer also shows that the open world might not be as barren as once appeared, with different biomes, mysterious structures and more.
The narrative presented in the story trailer was surprisingly gripping. If the story can carry that through a full campaign with additional twists, turns and fan-favourite character appearances, then it may end up being one of the best Sonic stories told to date.
There is one thing I picked up on in the trailer that is concerning. At the end, we see a pre-order screen and the bonus for pre-ordering is something called an Adventure Chest, which contains a bundle of skill points and power-ups so you can get a head start. Sega hasn't confirmed microtransactions for Sonic Frontiers, but these adventure chests sure do resemble the sort of ‘time saving' microtransactions we typically see in Ubisoft games. Hopefully this is just a one-time pre-order bonus though, and not something that will be sold through an in-game store.

KitGuru Says: What do you all think of the new Sonic Frontiers trailer? Personally, I'm liking the look of the game a whole lot more than I was earlier this summer when gameplay first dropped.
