NBA 2K23 will take up over 150GB

The past few years has seen video game sizes balloon to extreme heights, with some of the worst offenders easily taking up north of 100GB of precious hard drive space. While the current generation of consoles and their SSDs have helped to bring this number down for quite a few titles, NBA 2K23 will unfortunately not be one of them, with the game taking up over 150GB on Xbox.

Ahead of the game’s launch on the 9th of September, pre-loads for the upcoming NBA 2K23 have gone live, revealing that the sports title will take up 152GB on the Xbox Series X|S – a 35GB increase over last year’s title.

We do not yet know what size the game will take up on PlayStation, however considering 2K22 was only 6GB smaller on PS5 when compared to Xbox, it is safe to assume that this year’s entry will also be seeing a large increase in its file size (unless they choose to use the console’s Kraken compression technology).

What’s more, 152GB represents the game’s file size before the day-one patch, which may increase the required storage space even further. NBA 2K23 will be released across a wide range of consoles, including last-gen systems and even the Nintendo Switch.

Once 2K stops developing its NBA games with last-gen systems and HDDs in mind, hopefully the file sizes will begin to drop rather significantly. Then again, the team has no real incentive to do so, and so we will simply have to hope, wait ,and see.
