SteelSeries launches Apex 9 Mini and TKL keyboards with OptiPoint switches

SteelSeries has just released two new compact gaming keyboards, further increasing its vast peripheral portfolio. These are the Apex 9 Mini and Apex 9 TKL, both featuring OptiPoint optical switches, vibrant RGB lighting, and an adjustable keystroke actuation point of 1mm or 1.5mm.

The custom-built OptiPoint optical switches of the Apex 9 Mini and Apex 9 TKL look pretty good. Rated for 100M key presses, SteelSeries claims their switches are 33% faster to actuate and have zero debounce. Moreover, the manufacturer also claims their response time is a mere 0.2ms. That could be helped by the 1mm actuating point setting, while the other option is a 1.5mm travel distance, useful if you want to avoid the actions resulting from accidental keystrokes.

As the name indicates, the Apex 9 Mini uses a compact 60% design, while the TKL model comes in an 80% design with dedicated media keys. Both can be configured using the SteelSeries engine, which allows you to control the RGB lighting per key, create macros and switch the actuation point.

Both keyboards use Series 5000 aluminium top plates for increased stability, a 32-bit ARM CPU, detachable USB-C braided cables, double-shot PBT keycaps and height-adjustable tilt legs.
