It seems as though any live-service title released nowadays must inevitably include some form of crossover with other video game IPs. Such is the case with the command-action RPG NieR: Re[in]carnation, which will see a number of Persona 5 characters added to the game.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the official NieR: Re[in]carnation account revealed that “The Persona 5 Royal crossover event will begin on September 8th PST! Joker, Queen, and Fox will be joining us from P5R!”
For the uninitiated, NieR: Re[in]carnation is a mobile-exclusive free-to-play command-action RPG featuring impressive visuals, a mysterious narrative and beautiful music from series composer Keiichi Okabe – with none other than Yoko Taro himself helming the creative direction for the game.
This isn’t the first time that NieR: Re[in]carnation has crossed over with other games, though in all other instances, the characters included did hail from other NieR or NieR-adjacent projects (i.e. NieR: Automata, NieR: Replicant and Drakengard 3).
Unfortunately, as with many free-to-play mobile titles, NieR: re[in]carnation includes gacha elements, meaning your ability to obtain these Persona 5 characters will be left up to chance. Regardless, seeing NieR: re[in]carnation crossover with non-Square Enix franchises is interesting, and could open the gates to many more crossovers. The NieR: re[in]carnation x Persona 5 event will begin on the 8th of September.
