Skyrim: Anniversary Edition announced for Nintendo Switch

After more than 10 years on the market, Todd Howard is somehow still able to find new ways to sell Skyrim to fans in 2022. After releasing on other platforms late last year, Skyrim: Anniversary Edition is now available on Nintendo Switch.

Making the surprise announcement on Twitter, the official Nintendo account said, “New quests, foes, weapons and more await you in Tamriel – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is out now on #NintendoSwitch!”

Costing £49.99 (or £17.99 if you’re upgrading from the Special Edition), Skyrim Anniversary Edition comes with a bunch of new content to celebrate the game’s 10th birthday, namely 74 Creation Club mods, including but not limited to Fishing; Survival Mode and new quests with Saints and Seducers.

Skyrim: Anniversary Edition marks the second release of the game on the platform, with the Special Edition coming out back in late 2017. Creation Club mods aside, the Anniversary Edition seems to be exactly the same as the Special Edition, meaning those who already own the game have little reason to splash the cash on yet another Skyrim release.

Though Skyrim: Anniversary Edition seems in many ways superfluous – especially on Switch – its mere existence is not too offensive, and it can be useful to have the latest version of the game available in one package. Hopefully this is the last re-release of Skyrim.
