Meta Quest Pro leaks after functioning prototype left behind at hotel

While Meta will continue to support the Quest 2 as its primary gaming VR headset for the foreseeable future, the company is also working on a new pro-level headset codenamed Project Cambria. In a recent podcast, Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, confirmed that this headset would launch in October, and now, one Meta employee appears to have left a valuable prototype out in the wild, leading to new leaks.

The Quest Pro, also known as Project Cambria, is a new high-end VR headset with a focus on enabling new tracking and input methods. The headset ships with more cameras, Mini LED displays, new lenses, VR and AR support, additional cameras, as well as body, facial and eye tracking capabilities.

A prototype of this headset was found left behind in a hotel room last week. Content creator, Zectariuz Gaming (via The Verge), found the headset and filmed a quick unboxing, giving us our first look at the hardware ahead of Meta's planned October launch.

The person responsible for that prototype has since reclaimed the headset, so it is unlikely we get further in-person videos of the prototype, but at this point, we already know an awful lot about the device well ahead of time.

KitGuru Says: We've seen similar instances to this in the smartphone market, as early prototypes are often being used out in the wild for testing. In this case, the engineering sample could have been left behind by a Meta employee, or a third-party developer with early access to the hardware.
