The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild finally has a name and release date

It has been a couple of years since Nintendo first announced that it is working on a sequel to Breath of the Wild. Since then, we've all referred to this game as Breath of the Wild 2, but from today that changes. To close out today's Nintendo Direct, we got the first trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the official title for the sequel to Breath of the Wild. The new trailer once again showcases that Link will spending much of his time exploring floating pieces of Hyrule in the sky, gliding between each new area.

Originally, this game was planned for 2022, but was later pushed to 2023. Fortunately, it will still be releasing in the first half of next year, so it isn't too far away. As of today, the game is planned to launch for Nintendo Switch on the 12th of May 2023.

Here is the new cover art for the game:

Unfortunately, we do not have further details at this time, or a substantial chunk of new gameplay. With the game set for a May release though, we should see much more of the game in early 2022.

KitGuru Says: We didn't end up getting announcements for Wind Waker HD or Twilight Princess HD for Switch, but a new look at the sequel to Breath of the Wild makes up for that. Hopefully the game is now on track to meet its May release date.
