The Razer Edge is returning as a 5G mobile gaming handheld

Recently we've seen a lot of handheld gaming devices popping up, and soon, Razer will be adding its own to that list. Razer is currently working on a new version of the Razer Edge, but this time, with 5G networking for better access to streaming services, in addition to running Android games locally.

The Razer Edge 5G is being made in a collaboration between Razer, Verizon and Qualcomm. The big draw here is the addition of 5G, allowing users to access the new high-speed network, which should pair really well with streaming services like GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Under the hood, the Razer Edge 5G will feature a Snapdragon G3X Gen 1 SoC, a gaming-oriented chip that will allow you to play local Android games too, in addition to accessing console and PC games through streaming services.

Verizon revealed in a press release that the new Razer Edge will be properly unveiled at RazerCon on the 15th of October.

KitGuru Says: Most people have a decently sized smartphone that can stream and play games, and recently we've seen a lot of detachable controllers designed for smartphones too. With that in mind, it seems a dedicated mobile gaming device like this will sit in a very niche market.
