Last month with the launch of Ryzen 7000, we also saw the release of new X670 and X670E motherboards. Now as we head into October, more affordable options are starting to be announced. Today, Asus introduces four new B650 motherboard families, and NZXT has also announced the new N7 B650E.
The B650 and B650E motherboards support the new AM5 socket, giving you a perfect starting point for putting together a new Ryzen 7000 powered system. The platform also supports new standards like PCIe 5.0 and DDR5, so you'll be well prepared for the new generation of PC hardware.
Asus's line-up of B650 motherboards starts with the ROG Strix line, which are gaming-first motherboards, rather than boards focused on enthusiast-level overclocking and performance. From the flagship ROG Strix B650E-E Gaming WiFi to the compact-yet-mighty ROG Strix B650E-I Gaming WiFi, these boards bring high-end features to full-sized gaming rigs, and smaller, compact PCs.
As you would expect, there is also a range of TUF Gaming motherboards from Asus, offering DDR5 memory slots and a PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSD slot for even faster speeds. Asus will also have new ProArt and Prime series B650 motherboards available, which are geared more towards productivity and creative users. Each Asus B650 motherboard has a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot, so you can save some money over X670, but not miss out on one of the biggest platform upgrades AM5 brings.
As for NZXT, they are keeping things simple with just one motherboard – the N7 B650E, which packs all the latest features you'll want in a Ryzen 7000 series system. this includes 16+2+1 power phase design with 90A Smart Power Stage to provide a stable current for overclocking, a full motherboard faceplate to cover up the PCB, three M.2 SSD slots, an integrated I/O shield and WiFi 6E wireless and Bluetooth V5.2.
Just one of those M.2 SSD slots is PCIe 5.0, while the other two are PCIe 4.0.
We don't have retail pricing just yet, but based on X670 motherboard pricing, we would expect to see B650 motherboards occupying the £150 to £250 price bracket.
