Nvidia RTX 4080 (16GB) 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark results may have leaked

We're still a little ways off from seeing the RTX 4080 in the flesh, but it seems some people have managed to get their hands on this GPU a little early. This week, new 3DMark benchmark results were posted, purportedly revealing the first results for Nvidia's 16GB RTX 4080.

While the RTX 4090 is launching next week, the RTX 4080 isn't arriving until November, so as Videocardz points out, it is a little suspicious that someone was able to get hold of the GPU, as well as a working driver. With that in mind, do take this leak with a grain of salt. On the positive side, the GPU data shown does line up with what we're expecting to see from the 16GB RTX 4080, but ultimately, this could be a well-made forgery.

The leak posted on Chiphell shows results for the GPU in 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra, Extreme and in the Port Royal benchmark. In Fire Strike Ultra, the GPU achieves a score of 17,465, putting it around 20 per cent ahead of an RTX 3090 Ti. In the Extreme benchmark, the card scores 13,977 points, around 23 per cent better than an RTX 3090 Ti. Finally, in the Port Royal benchmark, the apparent RTX 4080 scored 17,607 points, roughly 16 per cent better than an RTX 3090 Ti.

The RTX 4080 will ship in two versions – a 16GB variant with an AD103 GPU, and a 12GB version using a cutdown AD104 GPU with fewer CUDA cores. Both versions are due to launch in November but Nvidia has not specified an exact date yet – possibly because it is waiting to see what AMD brings to the table with RDNA 3, which is being announced at an event in November.

KitGuru Says: These scores generally line up with expectations for the RTX 4080. We'll have to wait a while longer to see individual game benchmarks and other tests.
