You will soon be able to mute the Xbox start-up sound

For many, a console’s start-up sound can bring with it excitement and emotion as the jingle lets you know that it’s time to game. For some however, the noise is obtrusive and loud and serves no real purpose. For the latter kind, Microsoft has announced that you will be able to mute the start-up sound on your Xbox in a future update.

Microsoft recently released its September update for Xbox systems, adding a plethora of Quality of Life improvements. Alongside the official release, the console manufacturer also published a new Alpha build for Xbox Insiders, bringing with it three new features:

  • Added a new option which allows you to mute start-up sounds. To use it, navigate to Settings > General > Volume & audio output > Additional options.
  • A random subset of users will notice a new Search bar and link to Settings directly on the dashboard.
  • Enabled a filter menu with a new look, which gives you more control over how you view your games and apps. You can now simultaneously apply multiple filters per category and clear all your filters with a single button press.

The update also comes with a bunch of bug fixes, and so if you were previously running into any software issues, the full list of fixes can be found HERE. It is encouraging to see Microsoft consistently update its consoles with useful and practical features, making for a smoother overall experience.
