Deathloop Creative Director confirms game is set in Dishonored universe

It has long been thought that Arkane's most recent game, Deathloop, is tied into the Dishonored universe somehow. The games have similar art styles and the world Deathloop is set in would fit nicely as an island in Dishonored. Now, following the one-year anniversary of Deathloop, Arkane has confirmed that the two games are connected.

In the latest episode of Major Nelson's Official Xbox Podcast (via PCGamer), Deathloop creative director, Dinga Bakaba, confirmed that Deathloop is “one of the futures of the Dishonored world”. He then explained that there are a number of clues in the game, but because Deathloop has a lot going on, not all of these get noticed.

Still, at the high level, Deathloop's supernatural powers, weapons, art style and even the architecture showcased on the island map, all harken back to Dishonored. According to Bakaba, Deathloop is the future the team envisioned for the Dishonored world after the events of ‘Death of the Outsider'.

Ultimately, while there is some connective tissue between the two titles, Arkane did not market Deathloop as a Dishonored spinoff, as it would have distracted from everything else Arkane was trying to do with this game. The Dishonored connection is really just a very small part of the equation.

Deathloop first launched on PS5 and PC in 2021. Last month, the game finally launched on Xbox following a year of PS5 console exclusivity. The game is now available through Xbox Game Pass on PC and console. For PlayStation players, you can also get the game through Sony's own premium subscription service – PS+ Extra.

KitGuru Says: It may have misled fans of Dishonored to market Deathloop as a new spin-off. The two games share a lot of DNA, but ultimately, they are very separate entities.
