Microsoft Flight Simulator gets 17th World Update

Despite the fact that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is set to release in just a few months, the team at Asobo Studio are continuing to add new features and improvements to 2020’s MSFS – with World Update XVII revamping Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Making the announcement on their blog, the team at Asobo Studios unveiled the latest World Update, saying:

“Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, collectively known as DACH (Deutschland, Austria, Confoederatio Helvetica), offer an incredibly diverse array of landscapes and architecture to explore. Highlights include the Swiss Alps, mountain lakes, expansive forests, historic castles and cathedrals, and modern architectural feats. The Microsoft Flight Simulator team partnered with Bing Maps, Vexcel Imaging, Maxar Technologies, Gaya Simulations, and Orbx Simulation Systems to bring these countries to the Microsoft Flight Simulator world in all-new ways.”

The update is a rather meaty one, bringing with it a revamp of 10 cities (Linz, Salzburg, and Vienna in Austria; Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Hanau, Karow, and Potsdam in Germany as well as Bern and Zurich in Switzerland) – with the remainder of region also getting a welcome albeit smaller boost in visuals.

Beyond this, the update includes 116 new points of interest (42 in Germany, 38 in Austria, and 36 in Switzerland) as well as 3 new handcrafted airports: Austria’s Salzburg Airport (LOWS), Germany’s Munich Airport (EDDM), and Bern Airport (LSZB) in Switzerland.

Last but not least, the update brings with it 9 additional activities in the form of three discovery flights, three landing challenges, and three bush trips. Microsoft Flight Simulator World Update XVII is available right now.
