For the past many years, Sony has had a strong relationship with Square Enix – seeing the Japanese publisher release multiple Final Fantasy games exclusively for the PlayStation platform. Following the long-awaited announcement of Final Fantasy XVI for PC however, the game’s director has revealed that future entries may arrive day-and-date on multiple platforms.
With the official release date for the PC version of Final Fantasy XVI finally set for the 17th of September, the team at Square Enix have started discussing the wider future of Final Fantasy on PC.
As part of this FFXVI’s director Hiroshi Takai responded to a question asked by GamesRadar+ about the potential for future day-one PC releases, claiming that “I think it's possible – probably even likely. That said, the team in charge of each project gets to decide its own policy, so this is just my personal opinion.”
Despite just being Hiroshi Takai’s opinion, the sentiment seems to be shared by a majority of those at Square Enix – with the publisher already previously announcing plans to move away from timed-exclusivity. It’ll be interesting to see how FFXVI performs on PC and how it will affect Square’s future strategies.
