Ahead of its release on the 21st of October, pre-orders for the PS5, Xbox, PC and Switch versions of Persona 5 Royal have gone live. As part of this however, it has been discovered that the PlayStation 5 release of Persona 5 Royal will not offer cross-saves with the previous-gen release of the same game.
Whenever a game is brought forward to a new generation, there always persists the question of whether it will offer save transfers, allowing you to pick up where you left off but on a newer system. Unfortunately, for Persona 5 Royal this will not be the case, with YouTuber ScrambledFaz sharing a screenshot confirming that “save data cannot be shared with the PS4 version of Persona 5 Royal.”
While an unfortunate situation when any game fails to offer cross-saves, this is doubly disappointing due to the sheer length of the game. With Persona 5 Royal taking between 100 and 150 hours to complete, it is frustrating to see that fans will have to replay the entire game, no matter how far into it they were on PS4 – especially as the game is primarily story-driven.
As we have recently seen with Cyberpunk 2077, it is possible to add cross-saves via an update, and so not all hope is lost. Considering, however, the reputation of developer Atlus, don’t expect it to happen.
