Each year, ahead of the game’s proper release, Activision hosts a beta period for that year’s Call of Duty, giving fans early insight into the maps, guns, mechanics and more coming with the upcoming FPS. The beta period for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has ended, with the publisher now revealing that it was the biggest in franchise history.
Making the announcement on their blog, the ‘Call of Duty Staff’ said “Call of Duty players made the Modern Warfare II Open Beta the biggest Beta in Call of Duty history — the most players, most hours played, and most matches played across PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and PC platforms combined. Thank you, Call of Duty community!”
Call of Duty Warzone Mobile has also seen some impressive early success, with the studio revealing that “The Call of Duty community has already made Warzone Mobile the fastest Activision, Blizzard and King mobile game to top 15 million pre-registrations on Google Play”. though perhaps not as impressive as the results seen for MW2, the excitement surrounding Warzone for mobile is notable.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare II is the sequel to the 2019 reboot which for many helped to revitalise the series. With both Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard seeing mixed receptions, there is a lot riding on the shoulders of MW2. If the beta is anything to go by however, then this will be a good year for Call of Duty.
