With digital gaming becoming more and more the norm, smaller indie titles typically do not receive a physical release due to budgeting purposes. Following half a decade of successful sales however – and after the release of the game’s long-awaited DLC – Cuphead is finally set to get a physical release.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Studio MDHR account said “On Cuphead’s 5th anniversary, we’re overjoyed to say: the game is Coming Soon to retail stores everywhere!! It will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 & Nintendo Switch…including The Delicious Last Course!”
Little else has been revealed regarding the game’s physical release, aside from the fact that it is in collaboration with Iam8bit, known for producing merch, vinyls, collectors' editions and more.
Previous games which saw physical releases thanks to Iam8bit include the likes of Stray; Grim Fandango; Disco Elysium: The Final Cut and Untitled Goose Game – to name just a few.
For now, nothing else is known about this Cuphead Physical Edition, with Iam8bit simply asking excited fans to sign up for the website’s mailing list, meaning we will have to wait a bit more for details. Hopefully they do the game justice.
