No Man’s Sky announces 4.0 update

Since its controversial launch all the way back in 2016, No Man’s Sky has become one of the prime examples of how a game can turn itself right around as long as the studio behind it is committed to improving and making a good game. Later this week, No Man’s Sky is set to get its 4.0 update, with the studio now detailing some of the additions.

Ahead of its launch on the 7th of October (also coinciding with the Switch release of No Man’s Sky), Hello Games’ Sean Murray sat down with PC Gamer to discuss the upcoming update, saying “If you come back to the game [in 4.0] there's actually a log where you have a summary of the story so far. We have an info portal that will collect together everything that you've done so far, everything you've unlocked, all of that, and give you more info on it, so that you can dig into it.”

Other improvements coming with the update includes new milestones to hit; a streamlined yet also expanded inventory; a ‘relaxed’ game mode which will “give players the sandbox experience of No Man's Sky but with less of a focus on survival” as well as upping the challenge on the survival mode.

With all that said it seems one of the major focus points with the 4.0 update is to give players the freedom to adapt the experience however they wish, with Murray claiming that “If you want to dial [the challenge] slightly differently, if you want to have permadeath in relaxed game mode, or whatever it is, you can do those things. You can change a ton of things to do with controls, a ton of things to do with difficulty, survival, crafting, you know, you can balance those your own way.”

These are likely to be just a few of the dozens or even hundreds of changes and improvements coming with the 4.0 update on the 7th of October. As always, the update will be 100% free to any and all those who own a copy of No Man’s Sky.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the 4.0 update details so far? What else do you want to see added? Would you pay for No Man’s Sky DLC? Let us know down below.
