CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwiński stepping down as co-CEO

CD Projekt Red is going through some leadership changes. After co-founding the company and working there for 30 years, co-CEO, Marcin Iwiński, is stepping down.

Following CD Projekt Red's massive roadmap unveiling, which includes a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, a new Witcher trilogy, multiple other Witcher titles and a brand new IP, CD Projekt also announced that Iwiński will be stepping down. While he will no longer be a joint CEO, he will still be involved with the company and is putting himself forward as a candidate for chairman of the supervisory board.

In a message published alongside the announcement, Iwiński said: “For me, this is a huge moment. I've been at CD PROJEKT for almost 30 years and I have seen it go from a handful of passion-driven rebels to an internationally recognized developer of story-driven role-playing games loved by millions globally. Back when Michał Kiciński and I founded the company, I don't think either of us would have been able to imagine this incredible journey, not even in our wildest dreams.”

At this point, CD Projekt has grown from a smalltime publishing company focused on the Polish market, to an international empire of multiple studios, with some of the biggest IPs in gaming. Cyberpunk 2077 had a rocky launch, but the company has bounced back and the future is looking very bright.

Iwiński will remain in his current position until the end of 2022, and after moving on from his executive position, he'll still be a major shareholder and will be involved with the company.
