Valve potentially ramping up for Neon Prime announcement

Valve recently filed a trademark for a brand new video game – Neon Prime. Recent rumours have pointed to this being a Dota spin-off with a sci-fi theme.

When the trademark first came to light, a former Valve employee revealed that the company had been working on a ship-building game inspired by FTL. It was later claimed that the game would be a Dota spin-off with a sci-fi theme. Interestingly, a new Neon Prime Twitter account has now been discovered but is currently inactive, indicating that Valve is preparing for a reveal. It is worth noting though that this account could have been made after the trademark became public, which means it could be a fan-run account or someone squatting on a potential username Valve would want to use.

Today, Dota 2's massive tournament, The International, will come to an end with a new world champion to be crowned. The final match is currently ongoing. Previously, Valve announced its card game, Artifact, at The International to poor reception. That game was ultimately scrapped entirely after failing to garner a big enough player base.

Given how poorly things went for Artifact, we are unsure if Valve would announce another new, non-sequel game at The International. Still, it'll be interesting to see if Gabe Newell has anything to say to close out the event later today.

KitGuru Says: Do you think Neon Prime will be announced by Valve soon? Or do you think they'll sit on it for as long as possible and potentially shelve the game without ever officially announcing it?
