After being locked to near-ancient hardware for years, Persona 3 and 4 are finally set to be unshackled from their reigns as the games are being released to all modern systems. That being said, while the PS5 will of course get Persona 3 and 4, the games will in fact be the PS4 version running through backwards compatibility.
As reported by Gematsu, Persona 3 and 4, which are planned to release sometime early next year, will be coming to PC, Switch, Xbox and PlayStation. That being said, developer Atlus did confirm that Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden on PlayStation will be PS4 versions available on PS5 through backwards compatibility.
Interestingly, the company later confirmed to Gematsu that the Xbox Series X|S version of both P3P and P4G will in fact be native – meaning they will be able to take full advantage of the new hardware.
Of course, Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are both rather old titles, and so even in a remastered form, it is unlikely that either game will tax the last-gen hardware, let alone current-gen systems. Still, the fact that there is no native PS5 version is disappointing.
It will be interesting to see what the differences between the PlayStation and Xbox versions are when both Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden release next year.
