Gotham Knights will get a new 4-player co-op mode after launch

Gotham Knights has always been pitched as a co-op-focused adventure – the game even features four distinct main characters for players to switch between. For reasons unknown, the game does not actually include 4-player co-op despite this character setup, but a new multiplayer mode will be coming post-launch to change that.

Gotham Knights borrows some elements from the Arkham games, but it is a completely separate game that does not tie into the Arkham story. The game stars the ‘Bat Family', including Batgirl, Robin, Night Wing and Red Hood, each with their own weapons and movement sets for combat. This setup lends itself well for 4-player co-op, but at launch, the game will only have 2-player co-op available for the main story, giving players the option to play single-player or with a friend.

On the 29th of November, Gotham Knights will get a new multiplayer mode called ‘Heroic Assault', a standalone mode actually designed for up to four players to participate in. This is an arena combat mode, so you and your team can fight through 30 floors of increasingly difficult enemies.

Honestly, it seems a bit tacked on, and it still bewilders me that the main game wasn't designed around being able to utilise all four characters. Still, if you are a hardcore Batman fan, and have friends who are also picking up this game, then the Heroic Assault mode may end up being fun.

KitGuru Says: Gotham Knights was originally being billed as a live service game, but it seems somewhere along the way, the developers pivoted and reduced the scope for multiplayer content. Given how many other major games are coming out over the next couple of months, it will be interesting to see how far the Batman IP can carry this game over the holiday season.
